Tech Faces BYU Today In Orlando

Georgia Tech squares off against the BYU Cougars this afternoon in the Pop-Tarts Bowl in Orlando, Florida. The Yellow Jackets enter as 3.5 to 4.5 point underdogs against a Cougars team that finished the season at 11-2, while Georgia Tech wrapped up at 9-3. Both squads had noteworthy seasons, starting strong but faltering near the finish line.

BYU lost their conference championship, knocking them out of CFP consideration. Meanwhile, Georgia Tech was in prime position for a spot in the ACC tournament game, where a win would have all but guaranteed them a CFP berth. However, they stumbled down the stretch, losing to NC State and then falling to Pittsburgh two weeks later, ending their hopes.

Georgia Tech's star quarterback Haynes King will be suiting up for the last time for the Yellow Jackets. King's career on the Flats included a 10th place finish for the Heisman Trophy in 2025. Notably, this will be the first game in several years without offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner, who has moved on to the University of Florida. Chris Weinke, formerly the Yellow Jackets' quarterback coach, will step in as offensive play-caller for this game.

Expect a high-scoring affair as both teams boast prolific offenses and occasionally shaky defenses– although Tech's defense has stepped up recently, including a stout finish against Georgia where they held the Bulldogs to their lowest point total of the season.
