The Last Time Pittsburgh Came Calling...

Pat Narduzzi's Pitt Panthers last came to Atlanta in 2021. The visitors won big, 52-21, on Tech's home turf.

The score was bad enough. But Geoff Collins' post-game "handshake" with Narduzzi made things even worse. Collins barely began a hand clasp before he lurched suddenly toward the North stands where several Tech players had gathered.

Narduzzi was clearly puzzled by this odd behavior, which came without any verbal exchange. Collins would later say he didn't recall anything about it, then said he was in a hurry to join his guys.

I'm still not sure how much time he saved with his truncated handshake- maybe a couple seconds? If that little bit of time was so precious, (or if Collins was peeved about something Narduzzi had done, which seems the more likely explanation), why not just skip the niceties all together.

Instead it was just one more "huh?" moment in the puzzling and non- productive Collins era at Georgia Tech.

Only four years later, the Jackets are 9-1 and vying for the ACC title. Remarkable.

Yes, Narduzzi has his quirks. And Brent Key is hyper- competitive. But regardless of the game's outcome here in late November 2025, it's a safe bet that two professional adults will shake hands on the field at game's end. As they should.
