Georgia Tech Is Ready For The Buffs

Just a week after asserting that his team was " nowhere near" ready for their first game of 2025, Tech head coach Brent Key said on Sunday that things were looking up in that regard.
The team's physical health, he said, is good overall, which has not always been the case in years past as a given team wraps up summer camp to launch a new season .

Beyond that , Key said, the. available team depth is stronger than in the past, meaning more players can see action, dropping the risk of injury , or fatigue, from the quiet toll of exertion as the game rolls on.
Just prior to a Sunday press conference, Georgia Tech released its two- deep depth chart. There were no big surprises , but a few things to note.
At tight end, four Yellow Jackets are listed as first team level–seniors JT Byrne, Josh Beetham, Brett Seither , plus redshirt freshman Luke Harpring. Each will likely see action. While stopping short of calling them interchangeable, Key noted thst each has his strong points, and that any of the four could be called upon with confidence in a given game situation.
Key also noted that freshman tackle Josh Petty is a special talent . His comments about Petty were in response to a query about the details of the just- released depth chart that featured Petty's name as back- up tackle on either side of the line. Specifically, he backs up Ethan McKinney on the left side and Malachi Carney and Jameson Riggs on the right. as situations might dictate.
Tech's head man went on to say that playing on both sides of the line, even within the same game, was a reasonable task to take on, given sufficient prior practice of same.
To make his point, Key offered an analogy to the game of golf. Playing the opposite side of tbe line would be similar to playing a familiar golf course, with familiar pin placement, but with left-handed clubs.
" Josh is a very talented young man, and we were fortunate to bring in a talented offensive line group last year, so that's part of the cross- training for those guys", said Key.
Tech's offensive line is anchored by right guard Keylan Rutledge , a senior who has picked up preseason honors this summer in anticipation of another stellar year.

Rutledge and his fellow linemen will play a big role in Tech's offensive success in the upcoming campaign.
