Georgia Tech Looks Ahead To 2025

In Brent Key's third full year as head coach at Georgia Tech, things are looking up. Not that Tech hasn't made substantial forward progress over the last two years. To the contrary, Key has reinvigorated the program to the the tune of consecutive 7-6 seasons. In the process, the Yellow Jackets have earned growing respect from their ACC foes, something that was frankly lacking during the Geoff Collins era when Tech won three games per year.

This upcoming season holds promise, too, because the schedule looks a bit more friendly than in recent years. Sure, the Jackets still face Georgia and Clemson this year. But Notre Dame is off for 2025, as is Miami. That being said, the current world of college football is more unpredictable than ever, so counting probable wins before the first kickoff is perilous. Even so, Key not only hopes but expects his team to contend for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship. His charges have proven they can compete effectively with the traditional big boys. The trick is avoiding falling prey to a tough day against a seemingly lesser opponent. If Tech can avoid tjose pitfalls, they will be looking at a higher profile bowl game, possibly with national implications.

Along with the schedule come two vital components. The Yellow Jacket offense returns most of last year's key players. The defense is less settled, and will be playing under a new coordinator, Blake Gideon.

The kicking game features proven performer Aidan Birr for placement duties, but there will be a new punter for Tech this year as previous starter David Shanahan has moved on.

We will review these components in the days to come.
