Wolfpack Trips Up Tech In Raleigh- And The Fun Is Upon Us
Well, the undefeated ride is over. Georgia Tech is now 8-1 , after a loss to NC State. In the curious ways of college football, Tech now trails Virginia in the ACC standings. The Cavs are "undefeated " in conference play and 8- 1 overall. Their only loss was to....NC State.
Wait. That NC State? The same team who just beat Tech? Yep, that's them. But...Virginia and NC State had agreed to play one another in a " non- conference '' designated game, so....Virginia is regarded as undefeated in the ACC even though they have one loss and that loss is to a current member of the ACC.
Confused? Me too.
Wait... this just in... Virginia fell to Wake Forest on Saturday. That loss to Wake gives Virginia an " official" loss in tbe league, so Tech is back at the top. For now.
As twisted as that logic is, the fun has only just begun. Wait til the season winds down to the last week or two, and we have proponents stepping forth for deserving three- loss teams to be included in the Chosen Twelve, on the basis of strength of schedule, or injuries, or perceived league " depth" or my favorite, the " eye test".
Baloney/Salami.
I'm pining for the old days when we simply voted for our preferred teams. Oh wait. We still are voting. Well, at least money's not a major factor, right?
